Pirates of the Caribbean. What started off as a popular ride at its theme park has turned into a surprise hit for Walt Disney Pictures in 2003 with sequels promised to be released for summer of 2006 and 2007.

Pirates of the Caribbean Attraction

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Disneyland Theme Park in Anaheim has been one the most popular attractions at the park since its the ride's introduction in 1967. According to wikipedia, the ride has changed significantly over the years as controversial themes (such as  a groups of pirates chasing attractive women) have been phased out to make way for more politically correct themes. While I’ve been to Disneyland several times, I’ve never had a chance to actually ride the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction because of the length of the queue, but based on my experience with other Disney attractions I’m sure the attraction is both aesthetically discerningly and exhilarating to ride. The ride was so popular at Disneyland that the similar rides were built at Disney theme parks in Orlando, France and Tokyo.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

With global gross ticket sales of $652 million dollars, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who has not watched the 2003 classic, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Despite its running time of 2 hours and 13 minutes the movie did not disappoint, brilliantly mixing elements of mystery, suspense and humor into a family hit for the ages. The film received five Oscar nominations including a Best Actor nomination for Johnny Depp.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

On July 7th, the sequel to the Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest will make its North American debut at theatres across the nation. The highly anticipated sequel will star Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley, each playing the same characters that made the original movie so entertaining. I look forward to seeing if the second movie can live up to the hype and buzz and precedence the first movie set.
