This is the seventh release in the Pirates line of constructible strategy games. It was originally scheduled for release in October 2006, but has been pushed back by WizKids.
This set adds Three new Key words:
Mercenary(Ship) Ships with this key word can belong to any fleet. But cannot dock at your home Island.
Ex-Patriot-(Crew) Crew with this key word can be assigned to any ship, but the ship it's assigned,to gets the mercenary key word.
Submarine-Acts like a Sea monster (from Davy Jones) as it can be submerged,or surfaced. While submerged it can ATTACK BY RAMMING!Also, the base has only the razor spine fin attached to it(Submerged). As with Sea monsters, they have 2 to 3 "masts".Hull pieces are removed when hit. Some ships in this set have the ability to shoot at submerged subs.
Mysterious Islands(New Terrain):These Islands are placed FACE DOWN,and are turned over when a ship docks at them.the Island is then turned over,so it's special effects are face up(and remains face up for the rest of the game). The ship's player rolls a d6 die-then matches the rolled number to the corresponding one on the wild Island. That effect comes into play when it's criterion is met.If a rolled effect is imposible,it is ignored.Repeat this process each time a ship docks at a wild Island.
The book 20,000 Leauge's Under the Sea is heavily represented in this set.Card #001 is the Nautilus(Pictured above).#020 is Captain Nemo(Link to Nautilus,Ex-patriot) who has the ability to capture crew, and use thier abilities on his ship. #084 is Ned Land, who gets +1 in boarding parties. And +2 against Sea monsters & Subs.(Due to his harpooning skills.)He also belongs to the French Nation in this set.(Link to all French ships)
Mysterious Islands introduces cool Nautilus style submarines that skim the surface, and battle whatever force they come upon.Be it Pirate, Mercenary, or Sea Creature. Additionally, each game pack contains a "Mysterious Island" that will affect how the brave explorers find gold, (or ruin), in the game.
Game pack contents:2 sailing ships or Seamonster,1 treasure or crew card,1 Mysterious Island card,1 rules sheet,1 die (d6),copper in color.
The number of cards in the base set is 137 (Some ships are 1,2 or 3 cards-but the total is listed as 137)
This should be another exciting expansion, coming right on the heels of Davy Jones' Curse.Submarines run amok, but the Nations of the world have ways to stop them. BEWARE!
Rules the Seas, and take no prisoners!
