About Artisan Pipe Carver Dura Semjaniv
Artisans of fine smoking pipes come from all over the world, but one thing they have in common is their dedication to perfection when crafting their useful and beautiful art. These skilled craftsmen, though they hail from different countries, view carving these valuable pipes as more than just a profession; it is an art form that they enjoy perfecting and dedicating their lives to.
When purchasing a highly collectible hand-carved pipe made by one of these skilled craftsmen, you know your investment is worth it, not only for the time it took to create it or the polished beauty of the final product, but also for the immense amount of talent and fine-tuned skill from the hands that crafted each beautiful pipe. Visit Old World Pub & Pipe to see our selection of finely crafted estate pipes.
Dura Semjaniv is a rarity in the ranks of highly esteemed pipe artisans, for he is one of the few well-known Swedish pipe carvers. Born in 1954, he began crafting pipes in 1985 after learning the tricks of the trade from his mentor, the late Arne Ljung, also a Swedish pipe maker. In the years since, Dura has polished his skill and has created his own unique style, putting his own unique spin on a traditionally classic style.
In 1995 he sold his shop and began working part-time from a home studio in his basement. He currently makes about 75 pipes a year from high-quality materials like Corsican Erica Arborea, ebonite stems, and horn and bamboo accessories. His authentic, finely crafted pipes can be identified by their stamp of “Dura Sweden” with three crowns, the Swedish national symbol. These pipes are sold all over the world, in America, Germany, Italy, Austria, Japan, and Taiwan. You can find fine samples of Dura’s work at Old World Pub & Pipe!
