Phyllis A. Whitney is another author whose books I have read and enjoyed through the years. She was born in Japan of American parents and came to the United States for the first time when she was fifteen. The "A." stands for Ayame which in Japanese means "iris." She began writing in her teens. Her first hardback was published in 1941. At the age of 104, Phyllis A. Whitney she was working on her autobiography. She died February 8, 2008.**
In the 1960's, she was hailed as "the only American in her field with a major reputation" equal to Britian's Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt, by Time Magazine.
