I hope that this will be of use to someone either shipping or storing photographs !
When faced with the task of preparing a photo to ship I can offer a few words of advice and methods to meet your goal. This is first hand information that I would have given anything for six years ago.
The first thing you must do is think of the customer. How would you like to open an item when it arrives in the mail? It is best to use tissue paper to protect the finish on the photo and save it from any added scrathes. A small bag or even a piece of plastic wrap should be used to place each photo or group of photos in after they have been coverd with the tissue paper. This will help protect it from moisture. Tape two index cards together or any stiff board of needed size and tape only two adjacent sides. Best is the bottom and one side of the cards to produce a makeshift envelope. This will make it easier when the final product is removed. Place the plastic with it's contents between the cards leaving some of the plastic bag sticking out for easy removal when recieved. You can then use tape or a sticker to both seal the bag and attach it to the cards. I have found that a photo mailer is best when shipping single or small groups of photos. The entire process used before putting it into the mailer is to make the item easy for the customer to remove. No tape is holding your treasure hostage with the need of scissors or a razor blade to relase it. You will be confident with your final package and have a happy person on the recieving end.
Remember a good customer is a happy customer : )
