Personalized candy bar wrappers have moved to the forefront of the favor industry over the course of the last three years. Personalized wrapper designs are readily available for a vast selection of items; 1.55 oz. chocolate bars, miniature and nugget candy bars, tic tac packages, gum, and even soup cans and water bottles. Whatever the favor you are seeking, you are sure to find it somewhere on the net. Since there is a seemingly endless supply of sellers available to purchase from, it is important to keep some important details in mind when making your final choices. I am going to publish a series of guides on different subjects that will aid in your favor selection. This first guide will focus on the differences between adhesive wrappers and non-adhesive wrappers.
All of us search for favors for very different reasons; birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, business promotions, etc, and the differences in paper types can be confusing. Before you make your decision, you need to consider what you would like your guests to do with the favors once they have left the event, as each paper type works well for some events, but not so well for others. Adhesive wrappers are most often printed on matte label stock that can be found at your local office supply store. Matte label stock is not glossy, and does not provide the same brilliant results you will receive from glossy paper. This is not to say the wrappers will look any less professional, they just will not look the same as if they were printed on glossy paper. The wrappers stick immediately once they have been applied to your candy, and most often can not be moved once placed without tearing. If you are purchasing favors for a wedding or business promotion, it is especially important to keep this in mind. Most wedding guests, especially close friends and family, will choose to save your wedding favor in a scrapbook or other location. Many will eat or dispose of the chocolate before saving, and choose to save the wrapper only. Since the adhesive wrappers stick so well, they can not be easily removed from the item they are attached to, and will often tear into pieces. Because of this, we do not recommend self-adhesive candy wrappers for weddings, business promotions, or other occasions where the guests would be most likely to save the favors. If you are having a birthday party for a small child, and the favors are being given to other children around the same age, adhesive wrappers would work just fine. We would suggest that you purchase enough candy wrappers printed on glossy paper to save for yourself, and give to family.
One of the most popular questions I recieve about my candy wrappers is whether they should be assembled with glue or double-sided tape. I always recommend the use of regular Scotch brand double-sided tape. First of all, it adheres as soon as you apply it, but allows for easy repositioning if necessary. Glue will not adhere until it is almost completely dry, and constant pressure must be applied to ensure a good bond. Secondly, double-sided tape is less messy than glue. Glue sticks are better than liquid glue, but double-sided tape is better than both.
In our next guide, we will discuss the differences in laser printed and ink-jet printed wrappers and favors.
