The Art of wearing perfume - some simple do's and simple don'ts by lili-funk

Your scent should be the first thing you put on in the morning.  Do start at the feet, as your feet heat up during the day and the scent will rise.  Next apply behind the knees, another hot pulse point to disperse your scent through-out the day.  The lower back to under the breasts, throat, temples -etc. – where your body heat will diffuse it naturally.

Never apply perfume to the backs of your ears as this interferes with the natural pheromones in the body.  You can however apply it to the outer rims of the ears.  Do not rub your perfume into the skin as this crushes the scent.  Let it dry naturally or do some jumping jacks or some movement until it drys.  The exercise will also heat up the perfume faster.  Let the applications dry thoroughly so your clothes will not become stained while you are dressing, especially if wearing silk.

Do not apply your perfume directly after showering as your natural body oils are stripped and the perfume will not hold as long.  Instead layer up with matching soap, shower gel, lotion and then your perfume.

Customer Comments and Questions:

Hi, I have a question about your review. How do you put cologne on the rim of your ear or temple without rubbing it and thus crushing the scent? Seems as though it would be unsafe to spray perfume on your temples because they're so close to your eyes.    thanks!!! tC

Dear TC: Simply apply a little to your fingers and dab the fragrance onto the rims of your ears thus no crushing the fragrance.  If applying to the temple do the same a very small dab and one tap on the temple back from the eye and closer to your hairline would be appropriate.  In addition the nape of the neck is also a nice spot to perfume.

When I am putting perfume/scent on, I lean over and hold my head upside down then while holding the bottle about a foot away give one 'spritz' to my long hair. It holds the scent beautifully throughout the day and has a nice light lingering effect. Cheers! - contributed by mycookiecutters

Sorenson,

I read your articles and you seemed very knowledgeable about perfume.

Hope you don't mind me asking you a question.

I have bought perfume on Ebay twice, 2 btls each
and had different results.

The second time I purchased they sent same of the two bottles it was very weak and quickly disappperaed.

Is it possible I bought past due perfume and if yes how can I beware when buying perfume online?

Many thanks

D

Dear D

Thanks for asking D.  Without my actually viewing and sniffing the perfume with my lovely bionic nose I can't tell if it was tampered with, old or ???.

I can tell you that perfume that is old will be thick and not watery -  it will be thick and over-powering in scent, almost gaggingly so, and turns darker.  I think this may happen as chemicals evaporate and the oils mingle and rank. I didn't do well in chemistry by the way.

The watery consistency you speak of could be that it is not a perfume but instead an EDT or cologne which would account for it not being strong or having to reapply often.  And in addition each formula will have varying amounts of cutting agents.  But they should be consistent to each House brand.

Also colognes and perfumes should be kept in a controlled environment (never the bathroom cabinet), and not in direct light and unlike some say to put into the frig don't (NO NO NO) as it changes the chemical composition .

My best suggestion to protect yourself is to check the Seller's feedback, buy only perfume that is advertised as authentic and fresh and of course check your seller's feedback.  Look and see if they sell mostly perfume.  If you feel uncomfortable or ask them questions and they don't reply within a reasonable time, then DON'T BUY.  Thank you so much for thinking of me.
