Guess Who? Paul David Hewson, that's who! Better known as "Bono", the lead singer and songwriter of U2, Paul Hewson is making quite an impression on the world. Along with Bill and Melinda Gates, Bono was featured on the December 26, 2005 cover of Time magazine as one of 2005's Persons of the Year.
Born in Dublin, Ireland on May 10, 1960, Hewson is the second son of Bobby and Iris Hewson. He married Alison Stewart in 1982, and they have four children. Two daughters, Jordan and Memphis Eve, and two sons, Elijah and John Abraham.
Most of us know him from U2, the Irish rock band that was founded in October of 1976, and still going strong today. U2 band members are: Paul David Hewson - Bono, Dave Evans - The Edge, Larry Mullen, Jr., and Adam Clayton.
Bono is also known to be a passionate humanitarian and social activist. He is the founder of DATA, an organization whose focus is to raise awareness about, and spark response to the crises swamping Africa: unpayable Debts, uncontrolled spread of AIDS, and unfair Trade rules which keep Africans poor. He has also helped launch (Product) RED to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Bono also supports interests and causes including: The One Campaign, Greenpeace, War Child charity, the Cradle Foundation, Aids, Band Aid, Live Aid, The Big One, Net Aid, and many others. He is more than a very talented entertainer, he puts his time and money where his mouth is, spending time with politicians and others with the means to make a difference in the world issues he supports.
Maybe the next time you hear a U2 song playing, you might listen a little closer. The man behind the lyrics is not just another rock star! He's someone who has chosen to make a difference!
