Patagonia's PCR Fabric - What's It Made Of
PCR - in a nutshell means Post Consumer Recycled Plastic. The source for this recycled plastic is used soda and other drink bottles, unusable second quality fabrics and worn out garments.
Clothing made with recycled PCR fabrics is a positive step in the direction of a more sustainable system - one that uses fewer resources, and re-cycles re-uses recourses that would normally end up burned or in a landfill.
Benefits of recycling plastics and recyclable polyester products:
-
Lessens our dependence on oil
-
Keeps all of this junk out of the landfill, prolonging landfill life and reducing toxic emissions from incineration
-
Promotes less air, water and soil contamination
Patagonia uses this recycled material in the manufacture of fleece and Capilene. Therefore, hang these garments to dry ... they won't be happy in the drier.
