This is the second in a series of guides on PartyLite Mosaic Glassware. The first guide in our Partylite Mosaic series explores the labeling and packaging of authentic PartyLite Mosaic glassware. This deals with characteristic markings of the glass itself. For additional description help, either contact us directly or check out our other guides.

As Plain As The Lines on Your Face

If you hold any piece of PartyLite Mosaic Glassware up to the light, the drizzled glass lines are BLACK. Not blue, silver or gold.

At arms length, those blue lines can appear black. The blue line is created using cobalt glass. It is heated, and swirled across the face of the clear crystal before it cools completely, but after it has been blown. Blue lined glass can be made in a number of locations. Most likely, as is the case with our glassware, it is made in Romania, by Cristiro, the manufacturer of the PartyLite Mosaic Collection. Our entire collection of Mosaic glassware is manufactured by Cristiro and many of the pieces are exclusive to us. We have invested many hours in painstaking research to verify and recreate many of the retired PartyLite pieces. We specifically used cobalt blue lines, however, to distinguish our exclusive collection and our replicas from the originals. We also improved a bit on a few of the design problems inherent in the original PartyLite Mosaic pieces. Blue lined glass is also made in China by a knock-off manufacturer. The blue lines on these pieces are much lighter, and appear blue even at arms length.

Silver lined pieces were never part of the PartyLite Mosaic collection.  There were several pieces made for PartyLite featuring a blue glass with silver lines, this is correctly identified as the "Calypso Blue" or "blue calypso" collection from PartyLite. The authentic pieces from Partylite include a candle bowl that is very similar in size to a rose bowl or the Mosaic candle holder with glass votive cup. The calypso blue does include a votive cup. The silver, however is painted on the glass swirls and is prone to chip/flake.

Gold lined pieces were also never part of the PartyLite Mosaic collection. There were several designs (particularly hurricane shades) that featured the swirled/drizzled gold lines on clear glass. Those are part of the PartyLite Calypso collection.

The ORNAMENTS

PartyLite also offered three ornaments for sale in the late 1990's and into 2000 during the holiday season.  The Mosaic Globe, was also featured as a piece in the Mosaic Chandelier. It could be purchased separately, only briefly. It features the characteristic black lines on clear glass, painted with gold and lustre colors:

There was also a Calypso style ornament with blue glass and silver lines, as well as a mosaic looking ornament that had no colors. This is NOT a mosaic globe, but the "Black and Gold" ornament. It features the black lines with gold and/or silver painted on it. You'll notice the very large opening at the top of the ornament that appears hook shaped. This is a distinctive characteristic of the PartyLite ornaments. That opening allows the metal hook from the PartyLite Mosaic Chandelier to hook through the ornament without an additional hanger. Also, the globe ornaments were only offered in ONE size - approximately 3.5 inches in diameter. Our blue lined ornaments come in several different sizes (up to 6 inches in diameter) that were never a part of the original PartyLite collection, and feature a modified hanging top that requires an additional cord for suspension.

As an authority on the retired PartyLite Mosaic Collection, we encourage you to check our guides before you buy on eBay or anywhere else to be sure you know what you are buying.  If you are interested in adding to your collection, we offer the most diverse collection of glassware in the Mosaic pattern, all fashioned by hand by Cristiro, the makers of the now retired PartyLite Mosaic collection.  Please mention our guides when you place your order for an additional discount on your purchase.
