I like selling moth traps but there are ways to cut down if not eliminate these pesky critters.

The traps work good for the types of moths listed on the package but remember, the traps are only good for the male moths and if you have a super large number of moths in the air some are female and are competing with the trap pheromones. This means that there will might be a few that survive and the only real and permanent cure is to fix it so that there is nothing left for the moths to eat.

The moth larvae have to be eating something. Flour, bird seed, dog food. Anything that has a lot of grain in it. Also old packages of Cake mixes, noodles, cereal, nuts, seeds for sprouting or dry beans. I even found a package of mini candy coated chocolate Easter Eggs that the moths did their feeding on. Some say rice but I'm not sure of that.

One time I found they were eating D-CON® bait for mice. It's poison for mice but doesn't seem to bother the moths.

The traps only "cure" the immediate problem of airborne moths. As long as a few survive and there's food for them to eat the moths will appear from time to time. Also, new moths can come in from outside or be carried in on new items brought from the stores.

One source can possibly be bulk food items that have laid around for too long. These can get infested at the store easy from open top barrels.

To get rid of the moths for good you have to be a detective and search out things that the moth larvae are eating. Then toss the infected items into the out-of-doors garbage.

One way to keep food from being eaten by moths is to keep in glass jars with screw caps. Here, I like 2 quart mason jars available at most grocery stores. You just fill with the dry cereal product and use the screw cap lid as a cover. if the moths were already in the cereal they will be kept in the jar if the cap is tight.

Others have told me about airtight plastic containers which is a good idea too.

I live in the country and they seem to be worse than in town though I have them whipped here.

Good luck..... and thanks again for your interest.
