When backpacking, you want to pack lots of foods that are lightweight and high in nutrition. The well-packed pack includes well labeled plastic bags which contain all the ingredients for an individual meal. Don't forget to include preparation instructions.
Here are a couple of ideas of fun foods to include:
TRAIL SNACK
a good tasting, quick-energy snack

2 cups chopped almonds

2 cups chopped walnuts

2 cups chopped dried apricots

1 cup raisins
-
1 cup pine nuts
-
1 cup shelled sunflower seeds
-
1/2 pound carob or chocolate chips.
Combine all ingredients at home and package in small plastic baggies.
CAMP CANDY
a welcome surprise in camp
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup carob powder
- 1/2 cup shelled sunflower seeds
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup soy grits
- 1/4 cup wheat germ
Combine all ingredients, mixing well. Form into small balls or press flat on a greased cookie sheet and cut into cubes. Then roll in coconut, chopped nuts, seeds or powdered sugar. Package a day's ration in individual plastic baggies.
