One thing many women do not prepare for well is the trip to the hospital that ends your pregnancy and makes you a mom. A bag ought to be packed AT LEAST two weeks before your expected due date, maybe even a month before. In this bag, you need to make sure you have the essentials: Two pairs of pajamas with tops and bottoms (the size you wore while pregnant, because you aren't going to drop the weight that fast, sorry!), some snug maternity clothes to wear home (because the belly will be a little smaller, but not much), clean underwear, an outfit for the baby, a camera or two (digital, video, film, it doesn't matter! You have to record this event somehow!), your toothbrush and toothpaste, maybe some makeup (if you really want to deal with all of that), glasses/contacts and eye care, deodorant, your favorite shampoo, conditioner, and soap. That is really about all you need. I know most books say to pack a radio, book, a game or something to keep you entertained while in labor... guess what- you won't care! The hospital really can provide almost eveything you need, but I suggest bringing your own toiletries because the ones the hospital give you aren't exactly the best of the best. The hospital WILL provide the best baby care items though, so leave the diapers at home. The only thing you need to bring for the baby is an outfit to go home in (and make sure your carseat is already in the car too!). Any extra stuff that you may want to bring is up to you, but these are the essentials. It is best to pack light, because you will be leaving with a lot more than what you came with!
