First of all, let me start by thanking you for reading my guide. If you enjoy it, I ask that you vote down below for me! As always, you are welcome to contact me through eBay if you have any comments or questions related to this guide, or any of my others!

The purpose of this guide is not to bash sellers who offer these types of listings, its main purpose is just to let the public know how it is done because I think it is interesting! Weather you agree or disagree with the ethics of selling searched packs - it is quite prevelant on eBay.

So that everyone is on the same page here - a "searched pack" is a pack that has been calculated to contain a certain insert card, whether it is a game used card, an auto, or a combination of the two.

Now a searched pack has not necessarily been "searched". Very few people sell searched packs that have been opened and resealed - way too risky, and there are many other ways of finding out what is in the pack before opening it - let's discuss the top three ways a pack can be searched.

1. The most prevelant way to search a pack is by weight. If you are big into pack searching, like many of the sellers here who have 100's of listings on eBay right now - you purchase a very exact scale. The scale needs to go to thousandth's of an ounce in order to be be able to tell the difference between a regular pack, and a GU pack. A scale like this could run about $200 or more. What occurs, is the seller weighs every pack in the box, and marks down the weights. Most packs will weigh the same, but the packs containing the special inserts will weigh a bit more or less when talking such small amounts of weights. Now the seller does not know which insert is in the pack, other than that it is an Auto or a game used. What can you learn from this - BE very cautious of buying unsealed boxes or large amounts of loose packs on eBay - what do you think the sellers do with the other 20 or so packs from the box???

2. Pack Feeling and Pack Placement- Now from what I hear, there are people that have handled so many packs, that they can tell, from just picking up the pack, if there is a GU or even an auto in the pack. I would agree with certain packs - this is the case, but not all. As for Pack placement, certain brands of cards have "hot" packs placed in the same location in each box.

3. Pack width - You would need whats called a micrometer. This is a device used to measure thickness of two items with the difference being the size of a hair! Obviously, there are GU that are thicker than regular cards - and this tool will find them easily. Now you cover your bases with the width since card companies are trying to combat pack searching. They insert thick cards in every pack to try to deter these pack searchers, but the fake inserts are either the same weight as a real insert, or the same width, but rarely both. You can even find autos with this device since the coating on every auto is a little thinner than a regular card to help with the auto not smearing.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my guide.I am sure there are many other ways to pack search, but these are what I know of. I am the old fashioned type of collector, and like to be surprised!!! Thanks for reading, take a look at my other guides if you like this one and do not forget to vote down below!

Have a great day.
