The holdiay season is around the corner and your wondering which system the lil' ones will like more.
Well, lets take a look at each systems specs.
The PS3: 3.2Ghz Cell processor (total floating point performance of 218Gigaflops.). Graphics process is an Rsx @ 550MHz. which will provide a maximum of 1.8TerraFlops of Floating point performance. Memory: 256MB xdr main ram @3.2ghz 256MBgddr3 Vram(videoram) @700Mhz. Bandwith: Main ram 25.6GB per second, Video ram= 22.4GB per second, RSX= 20GB/write per second + 15GB read per second. 60GB HDD, 4 usb ports in the front. 2 2.0Usb ports in the rear. 1memory stick duo slot, one SDflash slot, and one compact flash port. 2 ethernet ports, built in WIFI, Bluetooth enabled. 7 wireless controllers supported. WIFI connectivity to the PSP. Screen sizez supported: 480i, 480p, 1080i, 1080p. PS3 will support Dual monitors. The PS3's Blue ray drive will support nearly every Disc type known to mankind.
Basically its going to be hella fast and future proof. with this hardware,i could see the PS3 lasting up to 8or9 years before it becomes obsolete.
Now the XBOX360 Support for DVD-video, DVD-Rom, DVD-R/RW, CD-DA, CD-Rom, CD-R, CD-RW, WMA CD, MP3 cd, JPEG photo CD. 3 USB 2.0 ports, Support for 4 wireless controllers. Detachable 20GB drive Wi-Fi ready. Custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU- 3 symmetrical cores at 3.2 GHz each- 2 hardware threads per core- 1 VMX-128 vector unit per core- 1 MB L2 cache
CPU Game Math Performance- 9 billion dots per second Custom ATI Graphics Processor- 500 MNz- 10 MB embedded DRAM- 48-way parallel floating-point shader pipelines- unified shader architecture Memory-512 MB GDDR3 RAM- 700 MNz DDR
Memory Bandwidth
- 22.4 GB/s memory interface bus bandwidth
- 256 GB/s memory bandwidth to EDRAM
- 21.6 GB/s frontside bus
The system has some good Hardware specs, but not as fast or powerful as the PS3 and the xbox360 has less functionality.
Now the comparisons. The XBOX and PS3 sell in 2 bundles. Xbox sells a bundle without an HDD, 1wired controller and no HD cables for $399. the other bundle comes with the 20GB hdd, cables, wireless controller, and wifi built in for $499
The PS3 $499 bundle will come with everything but the built in WIFI, memory card slots, and a smaller HDD. the $599 bundle will come with those items plus a 60GB HDD.
So lets compare the $499 bundles.
The PS3 Graphics processor unit packs 550ghz while xbox360comes with 500. the xbox 360's hard drive is 40gbs smaller. the xbox 360 has 3less usb ports. support for 3 less controllers. 1 less ethernet port. The PS3 supports almost every type of disc media known, while xbox only supports DVD and the DATED CD media. The PS3 is backwards Compatible with EVERY SINGLE PS2 AND PS1 GAME EVER MADE. The xbox is backwards compatible with a few select titles. The PS3 supports not only every type of HD set available, but can display 2 TV's! the Xbox supports 2types of HD sets and does not hook up to more than 1 tv.
The one benefit i see for XBOX 360 is XboxLive. It is a great system, However its 50 bucks a year. PS3 has been Mum about its online system, but has hinted at a rivalry system MUCH like xbox 360's AND for FREE!
A lot of people will tell you that the First system out in a generation of systems will always win. HOWEVER this is not the case. SNES sales ounumber sega Genesis. Playstation1 Nearly eradicated N64 except for its hit titles such as Goldeneye and Zelda.
If your planning buying a system thats cheap, has less functionality and will probably be replaced in a few years by a new system by the same company, xbox 360's $399 bundle is the way to go. Better yet, save even more money, buy a Nintendo WII and get a lot of fun out of your system. But if you want the most Powerful system that will have an arsenal of over 1000 games at launch ( that is with backwards compatibility) and will be around longer than any current system: PS3 IS DEFINATELY THE WAY TO GO!
