Whether you are a low handicapper or a beginner, you can find a PING club that will make your game better. Better golfers know that PING quality is fantastic and are well worth the extra money. Or, you might be a beginner who wants to improve his or her game, but do not want to pay a fortune for a set. These are usually the best bargain on Ebay. Of course, the newer ones are more expensive, but the technology has provided improvements that benefit your game.
PING has usually introduced a Blade and a cavity back at the same time for their popular series. If you are a beginner, but strike the ball solidly, do not be afraid of buying blades. If you are inconsistent at striking the ball in the center portion of the iron, look at the ones that are not blades or the ones that say O size. These will be more forgiving for you.
If you want high quality shafts, Ping has them. Buy ones with Cushin inserts for better feel and lower impact feedback.
PING color codes their products to make selection easy. Various lie angles, Grips, shafts, and shaft lengths are available at any time on Ebay. If you do not want what is available, you can find new, original PING grips on Ebay in many color codes and styles. Buy the clubs you want with grips you do not, then buy new grips and have them put on for a few dollars. To find what is right for you, read below.
The PING clubs can be great for you if you buy the right ones fit for you. Ping helps to make this easier, especially for you folks buying on Ebay, and not in a store. I did the static fit on Ping.com and previously had a local professional fit me dynamically. Because of this, I found the perfect match for me and I am not afraid to buy them online. The website even tells you which shaft to go with if you know how far you typically hit your 6 iron. I found that by working on tempo and not trying to kill the ball, I am able to gain considerable distance and accuracy over my old irons, Titleist DCI 990, just by using these clubs and slowing it down a bit. The first set of Pings I tried switched me over to Ping from Titleist forever. To date, I have owned and played the G2 driver and the TiSi Karsten Driver, the G2 fairway woods, the G5 hybrids, and i3, i3 plus, G2, G2 HL, and S59 irons. My wife has the G2Ls. I have tried most of the other Ping irons as well. Each generation keeps getting better and better. I have not owned them, but the Beryllium Copper irons are a friends all time favorites. When I hit them, they were the sweetest feeling club I have ever tried.
When you buy the proper length and lie, you will be amazed at how much better you strike the ball.
My point is this, get a solid fitting in before you buy any irons. They might be a good deal, but there is a reason Ping fits you to the club.
About the Ping irons. These irons play well. I found it easy to shape shots from right to left. It was more difficult left to right, but I have never been able to do that well anyhow. Because I was able to let the club hit the ball and control my tempo better, the ball flight is consistent and the carry is, too. My accuracy has increased dramatically, as well. Especially from the 8 iron down to the pitching wedge. The shot trajectory is much higher and softer landing with these and I do not get a lot of roll. Again, especially from the 8 iron down.
I attribute a lot of the improvements to the change in my tempo, but I give the Pings the credit for helping me change the tempo of my swing and really feel what I am doing with the shot more than that of other irons I have hit. Mishits are not so bad either. You really have to shank the ball or leave the clubface open to mess a shot up with these.
Expect to pay more for the various graphite shafts. The Ping custom WRX clubs are usually more as well. If you find a set of Pings with a matching sand wedge, 2 iron, or other wedges jump on them because these clubs are hard to find individually. Also, read about serial numbers below. Even the special clubs have serial numbers that could match the 3 to PW.
A lot of times, the owners name has been applied to the club. I found you can get this off easily with acetone and light sandpaper if it is screened in and not etched. You might ask the seller when this is listed this way.
In addition, if you are not very good at the long irons like 2, 3, and 4 you may want to look at the G5 hybrids. I have them too. If you hit the ball hard, but typically slice or hook, the hybrids dramatically reduce the mishit effect.
Be careful when bidding. There are some demo clubs floating around out there. Check with the seller for serial numbers as all Ping consumer clubs have them. Pay attention to feedback scores. This is EBays barometer of service. I swear by the feedback system.
I hope you found this info helpful.
