Game Selling and Customer Service - Guide Part 2:

LABELS ON CASES AND CLEANING THEM OFF:

As I mentioned in my Introduction to this GUIDE, “Game Selling and Customer Service” there are those who care about CS and those who don’t. In this GUIDE I will tell who I go about cleaning Video Game, DVD and CD cases from labels, stains, etc. You all have seen the case with a bunch of half peeled off, faded or other wise bad looking labels. They are generally hard to get off, unless you have the right tools for the job.

Generally for Video Game and DVD Cases as well as Cd cases, I use a cleaning product that will soften up and allow you to wipe it away! You need a strong working but safe to use and handle product that will cut through all that sticky residue and tape and I have just the solution for you. I use GOO GONE. It is a citrus based solvent that when allowed to soak into a label will soften it up and allow you to remove it. I use an old wash cloth and it comes off pretty easy. Some finger nail use may be needed. Usually pry up the corner of label and easily peel off label with your fingers, if wash cloth does not work. You can let the label soak in the GOO GONE for a longer period of time for more stubborn labels. This product and others do contain petroleum distillates, so caution is always advised. Wearing protective gloves wouldn’t be a bad idea. As with any chemical product, read production warning and information.

This is a Non-Toxic product but caution is always advised. GOO GONE can be used for many other cleaning uses also such as: grease removing, Gum, (Stickers), Crayon marks, and a laundry pre-wash. This product can be found at just about any Grocery Store, Drug Store or Hardware Store. I was told about another Product “ De-Solve-It, the store I went to was out and bought Goo Gone, am very happy with the product. The 4oz bottle costs about $3.00 but well worth the price…goes along way.

When cleaning the Video Game or DVD as well as CD cases, I remove the Title Insert Page, and insert a white sheet of paper. This does two things..(1) it soaks up any fluid that might get under the plastic you are cleaning and (2) you can see any stains or label residue that needs to be cleaned or re-cleaned. After cleaning I wipe the case with “ISOPROPYL ALCOLHOL” using another wash cloth or rag. I do this to remove any of the GOO GONE even tho it smells great, but it is a solvent, so I do it. This leaves the Case shiny and bright again, almost like new in most cases. Depends on the amount of scratches, abrasions and wear the case has gone through. Well there you have a simple solution to the STICKER problem, you can now sell your games or DVD’s without that nasty sticker problem. If anyone else has another method of cleaning them, I would like to know, email me please. For my next Guide in this series go to: Game Selling and Customer Service - Part #3 IF CLEANING DOES NOT WORK! Thank you for reading my Guide.
