PACKING POSTCARDS for shipment

There are several ways you could pack a postcard or postcards for shipment. The way I do it is a way I have found that minimizes damage to the card to ensure it arrives at its destination in the same condition as it was when it left your hands.

• Put your postcard inside plastic. You can use plastic wrap or a baggie if it is large enough. This protects the card if it falls into a puddle.

• Use bubble wrap to bulk up your package enough so that it will go as a package rather than an envelope. This way you can add Delivery confirmation to it. I know this adds to the cost of mailing however some postcards are worth quite a bit. Why risk a chargeback?

• Use a stiffener on both sides of the postcard. This protects it in the mail from being bent. This tip should be obvious but it is not to many sellers. After all, they say, postcards are meant to be mailed so why all the fuss. The reason for all the fuss is you want that postcard to get to the buyer in the same condition it left your hands. So use stiffener. I use old fedex envelopes. It is a lightweight cardboard and just enough stiffener to protect the card.

• If you are mailing more than one postcard in the same envelope, slip a piece of paper between them. This protects them from sticking together, the customer will appreciate your extra attention to detail too.

• Address your envelope before you put the postcard inside it. Reason? The imprint of your pen writing will press through possibly onto the postcard. This you absolutely do not want! So address the envelope first and then add the contents.
