Where can I download software and/or manuals for my purchase?
Most items sold by Dyelectrics will include the software and manuals, though we rarely list or guarantee they are included, as they can be missing from store returns. If it is not specifically listed as an included accessory on the auction page, please do not assume it is.
However, most basic software is free for download, so are the manuals. See the instructions below. Unfortunately, as per eBay rules, links outside eBay cannot be listed on this page so we cannot send you directly to the download sites. However, there is a work-around and the instructions given below will let you find what you're looking for. Just watch for the first top links in the search results.
We are giving instructions on how to find manuals and software for consumer electronics, because that's what we sell. But the same principles apply to other goods too.
For Apple iPods:
Apple iPods simply need the latest version of iTunes to work. Just go to Google and create a search: "iTunes download" and the top link will take you to Apple's website. iTunes is free for download.
Apple has an extensive library of manuals and tutorials. For these, in Google, just search: "ipod manuals" and the top link will take you to Apple's library of manuals, videos and other instructional material for the iPods.
For PDAs and PDA Phones - Pocket PC and Windows Mobile:
Windows Mobile and Pocket PC software is commonly used on HP iPaqs, Toshiba, Viewsonic, Audiovox PDA phones and most PDA phones (except normally all Treos except the 700W.) This software is made to sync with your copy of Microsoft Outlook.
To sync with Outlook, you will need to download Microsoft Activesync. To download the latest version for free, again from Google, search: "Microsoft Activesync Download." Activesync is free. If you have a Treo with Windows Mobile (not Palm,) search "Windows mobile Palm Activesync" to find the appropriate variant.
Most manuals can be found simply by searching the brand or model number and the word "manual" at the end. It will almost invariably be the top link in the search results.
For PDA and PDA Phones - Palm OS:
Units made by Palm, Handspring, Garmin and Sony Clies utilize Palm Desktop software. Although different versions are available for download on Palm's website, all will sync your Palm unit with the Palm Desktop (contacts, calendar, notes, etc.)
To download the Palm Desktop, from Google, search: "Palm Desktop Download" to find both Mac and PC versions of the desktop.
Most manuals can be found simply by Googling the brand or model number and the word "manual" at the end. It will almost always be the top link in the search results.
For GPS Units:
The manuals for most GPS units are free for download from the manufacturers' website. However, make sure that the mapping software is also included. However, most mapping software will need to be purchased separately unless it is specifically listed on the auction page.
For Digital Cameras:
Nearly every digital camera can be connected to a Windows XP machine. They're normally defined as a USB drive. That means no extra software is required. You can simply plug your camera into your computer (or remove the memory card if you have a memory card reader) and transfer the photos to your PC or Mac.
It's a fairly simple process. Like we said above, the general rule is; Type your brand name, model number followed by the words "manual" or "software" and you will invariably get the right link at the top of the search results.
