I have been on ebay for almost 5 years now, and it seems every room in my house has something I bought online. I started out by bidding on my own history. Things that I remembered from my childhood like luchboxes and toys from the 80's such as he-man and lazer tag. The best part about ebay is even if you don't remember the name of the toy, you can type in a few keywords and you WILL find what you wanted and sometimes things that you had forgotten all about.
Your history does not have to be about toys, there are many simple things in life that made us happy as children or even adults. I bought an old cookie jar from ebay that we had when I was very young that was broken over 30 years ago. It makes me smile to see that same cookie jar on top of my fridge now. Anything that made you happy or reminds you of being happy or even someone who made you feel that way you can find with a simple search.
Don't get upset if you don't find what you are looking for right away. Ebay has searches that you can save, and anytime they find those keywords they will e-mail you with that search information. Yes, even if the item you want is 500 lbs. you can make your search local to wherever you live so you may pick-up that item you really wanted. I have found many things local to me that I have gone and picked up that were too heavy to ship.
The best advice I can give is that if it exists and you want it, be patient someone will list it and you can have little piece of your own history.
