This guide is for the professional La Crosse Wireless weather station with touch screen, mine has a cherry finish. (CH model)
I give this weather station a 9 out of 10, it is great, I am very satisfied with it. I have two minor concerns I will address below.
I purchased a refurbished model here on ebay, which had to be returned to the factory for a defective Hygro sensor, it was returned quickly and everything has worked fine for almost a year. (purchased winter of 2006)
Setup was EXTREMELY easy, it took me less than 30 minutes was everything was removed from the box.
I will talk about the model itself. The weather station itself, the computer, the brain, etc... is very sturdy, it has a very good strong feel too it. With the wood inlays, it looks great too! The screen or monitor itself it nice and bright, you can adjust the contrast and brightness too for better visibility at night or during bright days. The background light turns on when the screen is touched. (touch screen model) It is bright at night to see the characters on the screen clearly.
The station "talks" to the three individual sensors, the wind sensor, rain sensor and the temperature/hygro sensor. This Hygro sensor is actually the wireless transmitter. Both the rain and wind sensors plug into the Hygro sensor which transmits to the base station up to 330feet with two C batteries. (I have had problems when the base is about 100 feet away, probably depends on your home. (my walls are 12" thick). Also at times it seems to stop reading the wind speed, turning it off and on usually fixes the problem.
I have not had any problems since the unit was returned from the factory. It measures rainfall pretty accurately and wind speed and direction accurately as well.
I really like the fact that it recordes the lowest and highest temperatures each day and the time of day when the highs and lows were reached. Also you can set alarms to go off in regards to temperatures, humidity, wind speed, pressure, etc.. For example if you want an alarm to go off if the outside temp reaches 32, you can program it to do so. The backlight is great at night too. Very bright and the display appears clear. You can adjust backlight settings and even contrast for the display.
My model ws-3610 was supposed to upload all info onto my computer and create records and graphs in regard to temps and rainfall, but it came with an old parallel port adapter. The computer program the unit came with has not been updated to use with newer computers with usb ports. So it cannot be connected to a computer, probably newer units can. I just checked on Lacrosse's website and they still do not have an update for usb connections.
<B>I will update this guide soon.
