If anyone is thinking of puchasing an electric skillet, thought I'd share my recent new found joys!!
FRY, SAUTE, ROAST, STEW, BAKE, COOK, SIMMER,
& SERVE !!
I purchased my brand new 12" square Oster 3001 model frying pan in order to use it whilst waiting for the new stove/range to have it's faulty handle repaired. I have to tell you~ a 1250.00 brand new range purchased on sale for 950.00, or the Oster skillet, I'd take the skillet anyday!! Even moreso now that I've used it for such a variety of foods!! This thing can't be beat! I only wish I had it the whole time my children were growing up!! More time we would have had those summer evenings, for more outings after work, etc~ More time for everything else but stove time!
If I only purchased 1 small appliance for the kitchen, this would be it, hands down. Does so much~
You can't beat it, you just can't~ ALL meats cook quickly, thoroughly and TENDERLY, gorgeously browned and tasty like you've never known before~ But so tender!!!!! Eggs cook evenly. In fact, everything I've ever cooked in it comes out so wonderfully good, I refuse to use the stove anymore, as even my old stoves never turned out such lovely goods, no matter how I fussed and watched.
Heats up quickly too, with a variable temp selector, (warm/simmer, 300, 325, 350, etc on up to 450+) better than your range top. NON-STICK..(follow the directions~heat once briefly with a thin coat of cooking oil before using the first time, simply wipe that away, and you are good to go from then on! Just do this once, and you can't believe how much less oil or butter you will need from lean meats to potatoes, whatever you may be cooking..truly no sticking!)
~~ Must use plastic non-stick "heat-resistant" types of utensils to keep your cooking surface as new~~
I have multiple food allergies, and as such, I must cook rather simply when it comes to my own food, hence am quite aware of the flavor (usually lack of, at least in the past!) of plainly cooked foods. I WILL NEVER BE WITHOUT THIS PAN AGAIN!! Best money I have ever spent in the kitchen, and I've yet to have a complaint of any kind.
The thing is so simple to use. You have 3 pieces. The pan, the lid, and a quick release cord which includes the temp selector. The cord is the only part you do not wash, the rest clean quickly and easily with warm soapy water in your sink where you may get them truly clean, (not just wiped out, like some electric appliances on the market today)
The handles truly do stay cool. The lid has an optional turn vent, (keep staem in, or let some out). The base has an optional flip down leg if you want to tilt the pan slightly for juices run-off or drain any fats away, such as when you are cooking the most delectably tender burger you could possibly ever have...(unbelievably tender sirloin, juicy moist & melt in your mouth tender even at "med-well or well-done") No need for pink uncooked slightly rare meat to enjoy tenderness! So if this is important to you, the Oster skillet is a healthy joy!
FLAVOR IS BEAUTIFULLY RETAINED~ out of this world for flavor ~ foods cook very rapidly, (you cut cooking time by miles in a week alone :), plus the meats stay so very tender, melt in your mouth, moist & good!! Even cooking and browning.
I would not only vote this the best item for those who try to prepare a yummy meal at home after racing late day from the office, but also for stay at home cooks for ease and speed of delicious cooking, easy clean up (immersible after you remove the cord) and also for economical use of energy.
You can have gorgeously tempting, thoroughly cooked, browned and tender chicken pieces vanishing from your plate in less than 20 minutes~ No costly oven heat-up, and no geasy frying, no longer stove-top or oven times. Fast & even.
Just as much a snap to clean.
I bought mine for 24.00 locally, but if I'd spent 4 times that, it would still be priceless in terms of real value. My best advice?
GET ONE ASAP!!!
p.s.. It sits up on high legs, but the bottom of the pan is what gets hot~ I'm certain it is made for sitting upon a counter-top, but just to be on the safe side, I simply stand mine upon the marble pastry slab when the skillet is in use cooking. Looks grand that way, too! (But they do not say you cannot use your counter, so I would think you can)~
Cheers!
