This Guide is for SELLERS of Allen, Rodgers, and similar organs, as well as pipe organs. It lists things potential buyers are interested in, which if included in your listing should help prevent repetitive questions from buyers. If you don't know what some of the following items mean, try to find out before listing the organ. (It does not inspire confidence in potential buyers to say things like, "I'm just trying to get rid of this for my grandmother. I don't know anything about these things.")
- List model number and year, if known.
- State where the organ has been used -- home, church, etc.
- State whether the organ is in current use, whether it has been in storage, etc. (If the latter, state whether it actually works.)
- State whether the organ is available to be tried out by potential buyers and how this can be arranged.
- Honestly list any defects. (Better yet, try to have them repaired: a key that doesn't sound, a stuck pedal, etc.)
- State the number of pedals on the pedal board.
- IMPORTANT: Be sure to state whether the pedal board is in standard AGO arrangement.
- State the number and type of volume/crescendo pedals. What manual(s) are they associated with?
- State the number of pistons and toe studs for each manual/pedal and the number of general pistons and toe studs.
- State whether the pistons and toe studs are programmable by the user or factory pre-set.
- State whether the stops move up and down (or in and out) when the pistons are pressed.
- List out the stops for each manual/pedal, as well as the couplers.
- Describe the arrangement of the speakers: internal? external? both? If both, will the organ sound decent with just the internal speakers (important for home users)?
- Specify the dimensions of the organ: width, depth, height. For the depth, state both the depth with pedals attached and with pedals removed.
- State whether there is a card reader, whether it works, and whether (and how many) cards are included.
- State whether there is a transposer; if so, how far in each direction?
- State whether there are any MIDI features.
- Pictures-- include: full view of the organ, full view of the pedal board, closeups that you think are appropriate.
- Shipping: Many listings say "pickup only". You limit your potential market severely by saying this. An interested buyer in Delaware is probably not going to be able to pick up an organ in Nevada. Use ebay's shipping tools and work with local movers to try to come up with a better arrangement.
I hope the above information will help you sell your organ.
