The Order of the Silesian Eagle 1st Class (Schleischer Adler 1. Klasse or simply the Silesian Eagle 1st Class) was often awarded veterans of the post-WWI Polish actions somewhat similar to a campaign medal for 6 months service in taking part in the defense of Silesia (now in Poland) . The vast majority were distributed in late-1921 to 1934 and were accompanied by an award certificate to members of the German Freikorps. It was created on 16 June 1919 by General Lt. Von Friedenburg for three or six months service in the Silesian border campaigns against Polish nationalists. As a general rule, The Order of the Silesian Eagle 2nd Class was awarded initially. It is unknown how many were awarded but it is below 250,000. This was one of the few Freikorps awards that were allowed to be worn on uniforms during the Third Reich.
The breast badge is in the form of a facing eagle with an upside-down crescent across it's breast and a scroll below with FÜR SILESIA impressed on it. There are many variants of this award. Copies are common.
