I am writing this to document the results of my shopping for Orange amplifiers on eBay in a 3 month time period ending August 2008. . Included are the summarized results of watching and analyzing the results of 38 completed auctions. Orange amplifiers are British tube guitar amplifiers that have been in existence since the late 60’s. While not as popular as Marshall and Hiwatt, they share many of the same characteristics of classic tube sound, sturdy design and great tone.
I began watching the results of auctions to get a feel for the market price of various models of Orange amps and recorded the results in a database. As a general rule, I only include the results of completed auctions, sold in and available to U.S. customers in U.S. $’s. I exclude auctions that appear fraudulent or fake, don’t have adequate descriptions to confirm the condition or identity of the product. As a warning, buying musical equipment, including amplifiers, has some degree of risk. I encourage all buyers to be familiar with the products they are buying, check the feedback of sellers and use safe payment methods. My search string was configured as follows: Orange,(Amp,Amplifier). This ensured that my search found auctions for the most Orange amplifiers.
On to the results! The average ending auction price for the 38 sampled auctions was $1300.02. The average shipping cost was $55.30. The highest price paid was $2116.00 for an Orange Thunderbird 200. The lowest price paid was $845.00 for a Orange Rocker 30.
The pricing by model/wattage is as follows:
Model/Watts Average High Low
30 watts $1059.37 $1175.00 $845.00
50 Watts $1610.40 $1900.00 $1334.00
100/120 Watts $1420.77 $1025.00 $1775.00
200 watts $1945.50 $2116.00 $1775.00
Rocker 30 $997.80 $1199.00 $845.00
AD30HTC $1093.13 $1175.00 $1000.00
