Opteka High Definition HD2 10x Macro 52mm Lens for Canon PowerShot A510/520/540

HEADS-UP!  To use this lens on my Canon A540, I also had to purchase a LENS ADAPTER, not included with the lens and was purchased separately – but got both here on eBay.  The picture above shows the lens already mounted on the silver Canon A540 adapter.  You MUST buy a separate adapter to use this lens if your camera has a telescoping lens.

I wanted to take better close-up shots for my eBay items than I could with the stock lens on my Canon A540 PowerShot digital camera.  I find that sometimes a great close-up sells products in my eBay store better, especially in the case of women’s clothing where I wish to show an interesting material, pattern, weave, etc.

I found this particular lens is perfect for the job.  It takes very good close-up pictures, picking up fine detail from 4” away.  Things that I could not even get into focus with the original stock lens now come out perfectly clear, even the smallest details.  I will include a sample close-up of a hound’s-tooth garment I sold on eBay. The first shot is with stock lens, second shot with the Opteka 10X.

Although the Review/Guide format shrunk the picture further, the original shot was so clear you could see the weave clearly along with the letters on the button.  There was no other way for me to get such a close shot without this lens.  You can read spec sheets on it all over eBay, but I wanted you to know how I feel about it as a working product.

It comes bubble wrapped in a small box with no instructions, but I will tell you what to do.  It’s very simple:

NOTE – Your original lens will NOT be removed, and in fact will extend inside the new lens/adapter combo when the camera is powered-on.  This is normal.  Because of this it is best if you power-off the camera first.

1. TURN OFF THE CAMERA!

2.  Screw the Opteka 10X lens onto your separately purchased lens adapter for your camera.  You can see my lens adapter in the pics above; it is the silver part.

3.  Remove the original lens ring from your camera.  On my Canon A540 camera, I push the button close to the lens and twist the lens ring off.

4.  Then put this lens on in place of the lens ring and gently twist until you hear the little click.  Now you are ready to take pictures.  Also it helps to be in a well-lit area for close-up shots, lotsa light please!  Enjoy your close-ups.

Problems?  Not many.  The original lens cap that came with it fit very snug.  In fact so snugly it eventually split.  That is my only real complaint, and a minor one at that.

Overall I am very pleased with my Opteka 10X Macro Lens, and would buy another if this one ever got damaged.

I hope I have helped you and if so, please vote yes below.

Thank you!
Jolly Treasure
