Hello all! I am a Trading Assistant here on ebay and I wanted to share a couple of quick tips about selling for other people. I wanted to tell all of you a couple of things that I did recently that really brought in new products. I live in New York City, so I'm lucky enough to have a million gazillion businesses so close to me. There are 2 other eBay stores in the area that I know about and I'm just talking about Manhattan. Both are national chains. 1 is called Snappy Auctions and the other is called iSoldit. Both are very successful, but I wanted a few edges that I could offer potential clients. 1 thing that I did was go to businesses themselves and introduce myself. I was prepared with business card, my company's polo shirt, and a nice and friendly attitude. I told the business owner that I have an eBay consigment store in the area and that I specialize in selling for business owners that have excessive or over stocked inventory. I explained that my rates are less for store owners since I'm most likely getting a volume of things to sell. I explained how I do it, why I do it, I explain that "I DO ALL THE WORK (VERY IMPORTANT)" and with my feedback I am able to ascertain more money than someone with little to no feedback. I explain to each owner that I am passionate about what I do, (OWNERS LOVE THIS) it makes them excited. I explain that I go to ebay conventions, teach ebay to others and sell for the public as well...I want them to think that I am bigger than I really am. I do teach others (1 old lady) and I do sell for the public that walk in my shop, but my main concern is that shoe store that has 150 pairs of shoes that I want to get to sell. (nothing like 150 pairs of shoes with a buy it now or a buy it now with a best offer, right there, in front of me ready to ship, bang bang bang one-after-the-other. I also have an advantage with my pricing. Businesses in NYC sell in high volume as compared to you the reader, maybe your in Pocatello Id, or Boone, NC where a shoe store owner sells a little since the population is smaller or maybe his wholesaler is one of 2 guys who charge the same but here in NYC, there are 100's of wholesalers under cutting each other. So, their cost, here in NYC is less, making room for me on eBay to have competitive pricing. I always take a business card of theirs and follow up a few days later (VERY IMPORTANT). Another good idea is to market your business with Gorilla Marketing. Gorilla Marketing is "in the street" advertising. I use simple 4x6 glossy fliers that detail what I do. I stand outside my store or in areas where people work long hours and at the same time make a good salary (WALL ST, SOHO, GREENWICH VILLAGE). I hand out these flyers wearing a company shirt ($25 for polo shirt and silk screen from local merchant), khaki pants or since it's hot here, khaki shorts and pass out my flyers. If hand the flyer to a girl i might say something like "Do you really need all those clothes in the closet?" or "Don't try to be like Amelda Marcos, get rid of your shoes"....that's the best line because they all laugh, which means i've gotton through to them, which means they might call. If it is a guy I say "do you really need all those extra suits" or "your wife will be happy when she sees you've done you spring cleaning and profited from it" or "I can sell anything, including spouses...just kidding...actually I'm not...we can sell her with a reserve...." that line goes on and on but again it makes them laugh which again means that I got to them. Being a former advertising salesman I will say those little penny pincher magazines in your community WILL NEVER WORK. All ads are cluttered together creating a tough search for something specific. I recommend the flyers. And don't put them on windshields, it's tacky, desperate and disrespectful. Seriously! You've made someone reach to get it and most times they don't look at it. Now let me tell you about my store....didn't I say in the beginning a few words? I am located next to a subway stop where 14 trains come to. I am feet away, but since this is NYC rent is $140 per sq ft, something I can't afford. I rent the basement of a store. It's just a few hundred a month and free wireless and I use my cell as a land line. I have window space as well even though I use a banner outside the store. Again, I've made myself appear to be bigger than I really am. On my biz card is my home as a location and this place. I have 2 locations, this is outlined on my website as well. BIGGER IS BETTER!!! The store is useful. I hand out flyers in front as as many as 100,000 people walk this street daily. They see my banners, me, my shirt...I have just created a billboard that will cost 5K a month by hanging in front. I also get the people that walk in and want to sell something. I'm smart.....I am near the financial district. Im there every morning at 7am. People say to themselves "hey i will drop it off before work and pick up a check when it sells...perfect" and they're right and these people work long hours and don't have time to sell on eBay and they work on Wall St so chances are I'm getting a good item that is in good shape that has value.....my $few hundred dollar per month investment is paying off!!!!!! Enough for now, until next time and please email me through ebay with questions or concerns, i will help for free to all ebay members!!!! love_edg
