)Often times people wonder, which is better: online shopping or catalog shopping?
Well, there are many reasons why Online shopping is better. Not only do you save trees and energy costs by not using so many paper catalogs, but it greatly reduces a company's overhead costs. Most consumers will be surprised to know that when you purchase a high priced item through a catalog, you are not always paying for the highest quality, but you are simply paying for that company's high overhead, such as catalog printing. It is extremely expensive to put out a paper catalog every month or even quarterly. These companies pass that cost on to you, the customer, sometimes at a 400% markup on their merchandise. You're led to think that you're receiving a "free" catalog in the mail, but you are most certainly paying for it everytime you buy something from that company. Not only do you do your part by reducing the sheer volume of paper catalogs that get thrown away each year, but you'll find that some online companies even use recycled packaging materials as often as possible.
Now take into consideration other forms of advertising as well, such as television, radio and other print media such as newspapers & magazines. Companies that use search engines, eBay & word of mouth advertising use up less resources, reduce overhead and can pass that savings on to you.
I have seen merchandise sell for 3 times the price from a print catalog versus the same item that sells for much less online. Why would you want to buy the more expensive one, when the quality is the same or better online? You still have to pay shipping with both. And often times the catalogs add a Handling charge too, so you're taking a hit in the wallet again!
Do you homework, comparison shop and see what online retailers your friends trust. There are lots of great deals online! And in today's economic atmosphere, Online Shopping gets my vote!
