Instructions for attaching Gas and Oil Cap Covers and Medallions
1. If it is easier, remove the part from bike and set on a level surface.. If not it is just as easy to use a piece of masking tape to hold cover on part while glue sets up. Masking tape is best since it will not leave any glue residue.
2. Make sure all surfaces to be glued are clean, dry and free of any grease or dirt.
3. Before applying any adhesive, trial fit cover on part. Make sure that cover is facing the right direction. For example newer ratcheting gas caps are not as crucial as the older bayonet type since you can turn the cap to any position to lock it in place.
4. Once you have figured out the right position apply the adhesive. We recommend clear silicone adhesive. Available at auto parts and hardware stores. We like Permatex RTV clear silicone adhesive.
5. Make sure you have enough adhesive contact by slightly lifting the cover.
6. On thin pieces like the web, flame or barb wire run a thin bead. Some adhesive may ooze out, As long as you are using the clear silicone adhesive you can let it set up and peel away after it cures.
7. If needed hold in place with some masking tape for 24 hours.
8. Excess silicone adhesive can be cleaned up after it sets with anything that will not scratch metal. Example, toothpick. Other adhesives should be removed before set up.
9. Adhesive should set up for at least 24 hours for best results.
