Onda VX787 4.3″ Touch Screen Video Review Overview Onda VX787 is a highlight product from Onda. VX787 has 4.3-inch touch screen, FM transmitting function and direct play nearly all the media formats. VX787 has a Rockchip chipset. The player has a 4.3 inch WQVGA TFT screen in 16:9 scale and 480x272 resolution supporting 160m colors. VX787 supports lots of audio and video formats, including MP3, OGG, WMA, FLAC, APE, WAV, AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV, WMV, 3GP, MPEG4, DAT, MP4, Microsoft Play FX, etc. Regarding the image viewing function, VX787 supports JPEG, GIF, BMP and PNG formats. Apart from this, this player supports TV-out function(PAL & NTSC). Just connect the player and your TV, everything shown in your player will be also shown in your TV. One of the highlights of this player is the FM transmitting function. You can output the audio at the frequecy of 76Mhz-108Mhz. The receiving range is about 10-15 metres. Besides, VX787 also has eBook function, game, FM radio and voice recording (with built-in mic). The USB 2.0 transferring speed is 9.2MB per second. The microSD extension slot allows maximum 32GB external memory for the player. The estimated time for audio and video playback are 40 and 6 hours separately.......... Overall the player is quite solid, it isn’t however, for a touch screen player, in the same league as the S:Flo, its more like an advanced version of the VX777 with a bit better UI. Now the sample we got has the firmware that will most likely be on the first VX787 that go on sale in China. It is stable, but it has many bugs, some noticable during the video review.................. The audio is good, like that of other rk2706 based player, the ID3 bug that was on the SFLO doesn’t seem to be on this player, which is good. There is no coverflow at all, basically only the center image changes, all those albums on the side stay the same. The firmware doesn’t support album art right now, but future update will add it. The touch sceeen for the most part can be used with a finger but some options are pretty smaller and are easier to use with the stylus, like changing which EQ you want to use. The FM Transmitter is only good if your like less than half a meter away from something, so its pretty much only going to be good if being used in a car. Audio from videos can also be outputting via the FM transmitter. You can change the frequency you want the device to transmit on, you can set it to any frequency..................... The built in speakers are ok, pretty much the standard quality found on MP4 Players, but there is notable distortion when you max the volume............... Video playback is good, images on the screen look great, but i do think the VX767 has somewhat better viewing angles than the VX787. Fast forwarding is pretty buggy and not that accurate, there is a small option where you can input the time you want to jump to on the video, but till now i still can’t get it to work..................... TV out actually looks better on the VX787 than the VX767, this maybe due to the RK2706 chip or maybe a better tv out chip was used.......... All the other functions are pretty standard and work well, no real complaints. The language translation for English is pretty bad, but even that can be easily changed by editing the language file in the firmware. The player has pretty good battery life, it will give about 6hrs for video and 12hrs for audio, not sure how much the FM transmitter will drain the battery............. Overall the build quality is good, hardware is solid, just buggy firmware, much like most MP4 players are when they are released...........
