I have found collecting novelty salt and pepper shakers to be a very enjoyable hobby. Novelty salt and pepper shakers have been produced in every shape imaginable and can appeal to any collector no matter what they collect. You collect historical memorabilia? There are World's Fair shakers, presidential shakers etc. Like advertising collectable's? Shakers have been produced by breweries, soda companies, gas stations, cigarette companies, restaurants, the list goes on and on. All a new collector needs to do is decide on an area that interests them, such as cartoon characters, animals, Black Americana, naughties, whatever. If you like it, I guarantee there are shakers available to suit your taste. Many S&P collectors do not focus on any particular category, they buy what tickles their fancy. Collecting shakers can fit any budget, you don't have to spend a fortune acquiring a nice collection. Once I started seriously collecting shakers, I purchased several S&P price guides. They each had information about the Novelty Salt and Pepper Shaker Collectors Club. I have never been a "club" type of person and didn't join for several years. I am sorry I waited as long as I did. If you love shakers, you will love the club. I have met many wonderful people that are as shaker crazy as I am. Each year the club holds a convention in different parts of the U.S. Attending a convention is the most fun a person and a shaker can have together! There are shakers display contest and costume contests where contestants dress as their favorite set of shakers. Then there is the buying and selling of shakers, thousands upon thousands of sets are available to purchase. The club also has local chapters in almost every area of the United States and Canada. If you are interested in starting a shaker collection, or have been collecting for years an would like to chat about S&P's or if you would like more information about the S&P Club, please feel free to email me at my email address: MNADER at AOL dot com. Happy Collecting! Tracy
