There is more to solder then 60/40. Not only are there different brands and different qualities of solder but there are also different mixes of solder. All solders follow the same formula, the first number being the tin content and the second number being the lead content. It is not a good idea to use plumbing solder, which can be purchased at hardware stores or home centers. This solder is designed to be used for plumbing and is not suitable for stained glass work. Many solders have impurities and contain air pockets that later show up in the final product. Whether you are a hobbyist or a professional, you should not settle for anything less than the best. Canfield quality solders have set the standards for over 150 years. Canfield prides itself on using all virgin metals in their premium solders that enables the solder to flow evenly making soldering easier and producing professional looking results.
An important aspect in the quality of an artisan’s work of art is the integrity of the materials he or she chooses.
