The best way to identify northwood carnival glass is to look for the logo. The logo is an underlined capital N in a complete circle. There are some peices that are not marked, which can cause confusion. For instance most grape & cable dresser trays are not marked. But northwood was the only company that produced this shape in this pattern, luckily no reproductions have hit the market yet.
There are companys out there that obviously are trying to fool consumers with there knock offs, the logos pictured look very similar to the old northwood trade mark.
- MOSSER REPRODUCTION
- L.G. WRIGHT TRADEMARK
There is also a great deal of knock offs coming from Taiwan. Some are marked with a huge N. Some are not marked at all. Newer glass is much heavier, also alot of times the finish is very cheap and flashy looking. Fenton also made reproductions of old northwood, but there logo is on them, so no confusion there.
If the northwood logo is not present, I would research that particular peice to see if there are any reproductions out there.
Here is a brief list of northwood patterns with reproductions on the market:
- CHERRY & CABLE / MOST MADE BY MOSSER / ORIGINAL NORTHWOOD ONLY CAME IN MARIGOLD.
- DRAPERY ROSEBOWL / MADE BY FENTON / AQUA OPALESCENT / FENTON LOGO MARKED.
