I have learned that the FAO Coins (Food and Agricultural Organization) Coins supposedly issued by North Korea during the year 2002 ARE NOT truly North Korean Government made Coins.
These coins are made (in sponsorship with the United Nations?) and sold for the profits to be used to purchase food for the North Korean population.
However, with the current policy of the North Korean Government, aka the "Songun Policy" which translates to English as "Army First" policy, the North Korean Government has been caught, time and time again, with side-directing all their received food aid to the North Korean Army and the "Elite" people first.
The ordinary "common people" only receive any food aid after the North Korean Government takes what it believes the North Korean Army and the group of "elite" people need first.
True Government-made North Korean Coins are not made with the metal these FAO Coins are made from. The true North Korean coins are made only with Aluminum.
Also, the currently available North Korean Coins have only propaganda themes showing on them.
These FAO Coins have only such subjects such as boats, animals, vehicles, etc., on them. This is a notable "tip-off" to knowledgeable collectors of North Korean Coins and Banknotes that these FAO Coins are not truly North Korean Coins.
Additionally, true North Korean Coins are not divided into the half-Chon denomination. The smallest North Korean Coin is the 1 Chon denomination.
