Fit Finder: Size Charts, The North Face, Outerwear, Mens
Sizing Measurement Tables, for convenience and comparison.

(a seperate chart is available for Tekware (activewear), for which measurements may vary slightly).

Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L), Extra Large (XL), Extra Extra Large (XXL, 2XL).
data source: manufacturer; (inches convert to centimeters by multiplying inches by 2.54).

If you are still unsure what size would be best for you, then you may wish to ask sellers to take a specific measurement prior to purchasld like the measurements to be made (its really too much to assume a seller will know what you have in mind if you are not specific). Competent sporting goods sellers, such as ourselves, will gladly be able to provide this information as applicable for a given product item. Buying from a seller or retailer that does not know their products inside and out is discouraged. Always be sure to ask your potential seller relevant questions if your concerns are not addressed within an item's description text. Now there's no need to just take a chance, and no need to worry about jacket or coat shopping online! Be a conscientous shopper and you'll be off to a great start!

Additional Sizing Tips to Consider

Some additional sizing tips to consider include the following general observations:

  • If you are not in the US, or not familiar with US sizing, don't worry. Use the measurements chart above to determine your size. To convert inches to centimeters, multiply inches by 2.54.
  • Depending on your intended uses, what you choose to wear under or over your jacket or coat is sometimes just as important as the apparel itself. This will inevitably influence your sizing requirements. Keep in mind that depending on the type of apparel you're considering, you may elect to wear something else along with it. As a result, take into consideration what other kinds of apparel you will be wearing (for example, thick versus thin, wool versus cotton, standard versus wicking). This will help determine what kind of "fit" you're looking for.
  • Determine in advance whether you need to take a step up to the next level of technical products, namely, jackets or coats constructed from either ultraviolet (UV) radiation resistant, water-resistant, waterproof, or moisture-wicking materials.
  • We often get questions on inter-gender compatibility. Should you be deterred from wearing jackets or coats of the opposite gender? Absolutely not; in all but a few cases, sizing is comparable if simple guidelines are followed, and styling is only sometimes an issue between genders. Why be deterred merely because its "designed" for the opposite gender? What's the difference? Don't be shy about this. If you like it, if its fits, if its something you need, then you should go for it.
  • FAQ: How do I convert men's to women's apparel sizes, and vice versa? Generally, converting men's to women's apparel sizes is an easy-to-remember rule of thumb. Its as easy as knowing your body measurements and taste preferences!
  • You should not be afraid to purchase jackets or coats online. When making decisions based on experience, be armed with your knowledge of your own body, your specific sporting activities, your own personal tendencies, and overall, good, practical judgment. This way, you can greatly minimize the chances that you will have any difficulties with regards to size. Fear, in the case of buying jackets or coats online, is rather silly, exaggerated and wisely dismissed.

The Importance of Sizing

A properly-fitted jacket or coat is perhaps one of the most important pieces of adventure sports equipment that a connoisseur of the outdoor lifestyle can have at their disposal. Not only does it complement one's collection of durable clothing, advanced outerwear, activewear, and outdoor fitness apparel, but it also is a means of ensuring safety while engaged in, or en route to, hiking, ultra running, jogging, cross-training, backcountry camping, rock climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, fishing, kayaking or other highly enjoyable athletic pursuits. Properly-fitted outerwear greatly minimizes the likelihood of injuries, buffets stress, wear and tear on the knees, legs and back, as well as reduces the occurence of swelling and painful arch or heel skin blisters. Obviously, you'll also want a proper fit so that you don't trip and take a header into a tree or off a cliff! Finally, for those that are using their jackets or coats for endurance training or adventure racing, remember that like that of any well-oiled machine, fluid motion is a principal component in being efficient. Efficiency lends itself to duration; duration to stamina; stamina to victory! A good fit is one that allows you to operate at your peak performance levels, and that's always a plus (or an advantage!) if it pushes you over the finish line of your personal goals.

  About this brand

The North Face is one of the most visible internationally recognized brands around. In 1966, two hiking enthusiasts founded a small mountaineering retail store in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach. The company soon became known as The North Face, a retailer of high-performance climbing and backpacking equipment. The basis of the name was that here in the northern hemisphere, the north face of a mountain is generally the coldest, iciest and most formidable to climb. In 1968, The North Face began designing and manufacturing its own brand of high-performance mountaineering apparel and equipment, and in the early 1980s, extreme skiwear was added to its product offerings. By the end of the decade, The North Face was the only supplier in the US to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, sleeping bags, packs and tents. In 1996, The North Face made its debut in the sportswear market by launching TNF Tekware, a collection of high-performance sportswear made from advanced materials using innovative construction. The Tekware collection was designed to provide rock climbers, backpackers, hikers, trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts with the ultimate in both fit and function. The company then acquired A-5 Adventures, Inc., adding portaledges and other big wall gear to its collection of outdoor equipment, and soon thereafter launced its own line of trekking and trail running shoes, along with the A5 Series technical apparel collection, which is aimed more towards the rock climbing, bouldering, and cragging enthusiast. The "A" in A5 Series is an abbreviation for Aid Climbing, which is defined as the use of mechanical devices placed in rock to assist in upward movement. "5" is the most difficult climbing rating (on the American Scale), suggesting that extreme aid is necessary. FYI: The brand is often mispelled northface or thenorthface.

This popular brand is revered and sought after for its quality and durability, and is a brand name to rely on, season after season, year after year. Some of the world's most admired professional adventure athletes swear by and trust this brand. These factors begin to explain why we choose to sell it alongside many outdoors sporting brands like it. New product models are continuously in development, and are updated and released at least once every calendar year.
