CAUTION: Used Hearing Aids ... Health Risk ?
Before buying a used hearing aid on eBay or anywhere-else, there may be BACTERIA hidden in the hearing aid ... BACTERIA that could possibly be introduced into your ears!
Think about, what if the previous user of that hearing aid had DRAINING EARS just oozing out tons of BACTERIA !
With all the little nooks and cranies for BACTERIA to hide, sterilizing a used hearing aid properly is beyond the average person's ability.
Wiping the hearing aids off with rubbing alcohol is the least attempt to "cleanup" BACTERIA, but it is almost useless with today's strong germs ...
Using the UV light on a Dry & Store hearing aid dehumidifier, this is a lot more effective but still this is not as effective as a Medical-Grade germicide - which is not readily available to the average person.
If you buy a used behind-the-ear hearing aid, dispose of any used earmold/eartip that may come with it. (Use a papertowel, not your bare hands to touch earmold/eartip- then wash your hands.)
If you buy a used custom in-the-ear type hearing aid, you may want to have a hearing aid center sterilize it for you - of course, they will charge you -- but at least you are alot safer.
Ear infections/bacteria are sometimes VERY HARD to clear up and can last for months ... years ... are you willing to take the Risk ?
(Remember the money you save buying a used hearing aid may be spent may times over on Doctor's bills - not counting the pain and aggravation of ear troubles.)
Be Careful.
