I got this Nikon 24-120mm IF AF before, i've sold it, at that time i also had Canon 28-135mm IS and Tamron 24-135mm, out of the 3 the Tamron produces best images quality, its very sharp and contrasty lens. As of this Nikon 24-120mm none VR version , its the older model made for film Nikon cameras back then, the AF is noisy, tough focus zoom ring, the minimum distance on focusing is far compare the other models, it has no macro, AF hunting in dim light, at 24mm the lens is not sharp, from 50-100mm the sharpness gets better, up to 120mm its not sharp either.
It is well built, solid and tough lens with 72mm filter size, come with HB12 wide angle hood.
To me its just an average lens for beginners whos dont know any better, or never tried other brand names, i strongly suggest for the same price go with Tamron 24-135mm it will outdo Nikon 24-120mm in every way. I dont mean to talk down on Nikon lenses, i have had over 20 Nikon lenses in my life, until i tried Tamron, Sigma and Tokina i like these better in the price range from 100-500$ they out performs nikon.
Stay with Tamron, Sigma, and Tokina gold ring series you will be a happy man. i sure am.
My brother also sold his Nikon 24-120mm VR he wasnt happy with its sharpness either.
