The Nike Air Jordan I – Original Nike Air Jordan

The Nike Brand is synonymous with the Nike Air Jordans – the brand of basketball shoes that changed the sneaker industry, changed Nike, and cemented Michael Jordan as the king of sneakers… the Air Jordan series has had 21 styles (with more releasing!) since the original Nike Air Jordan I which released in 1985. The changes in the Jordan shoes is drastic and evidences the change in the industry and the influence that Nike, Michael Jordan and the Nike Air Jordans have had on sneakers and sneaker companies.

The Air Jordan I was released in 1985, beginning the era of Air Jordans. Designed by Peter Moore, this shoe was a turning point in basketball shoe design. Many fake models of the Air Jordan I have been produced, and the Jordan I model has been emulated in the shoes of other shoe brands, as well.
 

The OG model of the Air Jordan I (black/red) was banned by the NBA in 1985 because it violated NBA color rules, creating publicity and interest for the new shoe. The OG I's came with a double set of laces to match the two colors of the shoe. For instance, the black/red colorway came with a set of black laces and a set of red. The Air Jordan I's were also released in the most colorways of any Air Jordan ever made: 23, including samples.

In 1994, the white/black-red and black/red colorways were retroed and sold very poorly. Many went on sale for as low as $20 in stores. The Air Jordan I's were re-retroed and sold out instantly. Now those shoes can sell for upwards of $1,000 each!
