AIT sensors are gizmos that like to hide on the large black tube, that sits on the engine, between the throttlebody (a glorified air damper, think your stove or furnace) and the air box, or filter assy.  It has 2 wires coming out of it that snake allong the engine, and eventually dissapear inside the mass of wires that make up your cars "central nervous system".

The "wiring loom," or "wiring harness" as it is more commenly called, is exactly that.  A nervous system that relays information in the form of an electric signal, to and from the engines sensors, and the ECU, or "Electronic Control Unit" AKA "Your CARS BRAIN"

Ideally, modifying your AIT sensor with these "CHIPS" does give you more horsepower..  OF COURSE IT WILL, because the CHIP is a little plastic case with a resistor inside of it..  AKA.. GARBAGE..

The resistor capps your voltage going through the AIT sensor..

Think of it like a childhood toy, a see-saw.  You and your friend, sit accross from eachother(or in my case, anyone who was heavier than me, lifted me in the air.. but whatever)   Your the "Voltage", and your buddy is "Air Density" (how much O2 is in the air).  Now, air density is related to altitude..  If your downtown LA, or New York.. your altitude is at sea-level, and the air density is "most" dence. (picture your friend on the ground and your high in the air)  In this situation, when the air is "most" dence, the Voltage being read is highest.

The ECU (in some cases, not all) sends 'measured' voltage to the AIT sensor(+) and measures the voltage on the negtive lead (-).   These voltages will be subtracted and the difference is the resistance or "electron friction". Now, it also takes that reading and compares it to the O2 sensor in the Exhaust manifold, among other things (fuel ratio constitutes for 65% of the ECU function)

Now atitude is the 'variable' here, because the San Fernando Vally is at a different atitude than Baja, a different altitude means a different ratio of fuel to air.   Fuel needs air to burn and the denser the air, the more Oxegen molecules are packed tighter together, the punch is greater (bigger bang..GOOD) However when the air is thin, it doesn't require as much fuel to compleate the same punch.

Its benifits are Enviromental, Engine wear, Cooling, Piston Faces, Valves, Spark-plugs, Valve seats, Oil condition.. Fuel economy.. and Cold Weather Startingas well as Warm weather starting.. and its just goes on, and on.. and on...

Basically, if you modify the AIT sensor wires, you take most or all of the functionality out of your cars "manufactured" versitility.  Think of the SEE-SAW again... How much fun would it be, if I came allong, and welded the centre of the see-saw to the frame, making it solid, so it doesn't move.

This way , regardless of air tempreture, or density, the computer gets the same reading, which is telling it to pump the same amount of fuel into the engine, which degrades proformance over time, due to carbon deposits all over everything.. and your Catholic-Converter is "Buying the Farm" because its plugged up.

Yes it will give you more horsepower, but it does nothing else.. no shift points, no special effects, no cooling advantages.

ITS CONNECTED BY 2 sometimes 4 WIRES..  does it seem like it can multifunction? really...  I mean, look at the Wiring Harness... Now that controlls stuff,      4 wires?  come on.. use your knoggin..

Now, if your a gear head like me, your always going to be looking for that extra Lb/Ft., or HP, and trust me, I try and squeeze every last little ounce of power out of my car(s)

However you might not be as, "educated" as you would like to be and you have no doubtedly tried you hand at a little 500ft street race, now and agian (hey we ALL do this, trust me).  Perhaps your not as mechanically inclined as you want to be, and electrical componentry are rendered compleate gibberish because is interpereted as that.  Not your fault.

If you want to give your car an edge, get a "REAL" superchip, or a Ignition system (MSD) heck, even a K&N filter will release a few ponies in some cars..  there are other options... many many many many....

Whatever the case may be, before you modify your pride and joy, please make sure you know what your installing, and if you don't know, ask.. there is no such thing as a stupid question.. just stupid people..

ok.. thats it.. Im done now.. go away..
