A top notch Digital Camera isn't really necessary for posting Quality Photos of your sale item. Most importantly I've found is your background. In my ebay Photo Area, I actually painted a 8'x4' wall Light Blue. Yes Light Blue, works Great with digital cameras. Now, most sellers would probably find that impractical, so try a Light Blue Bedsheet thumbtacked in place on the wall. A small table with the sheet draped on it in front works great, and you can use boxes underneath for propping up smaller items.
Often sellers will take their photos outside for better lighting. First, you want the Buyer to Focus on the Item for Sale, not the Background.(you'll naturally find yourself looking at the Sellers yard, not as much the item. Nice Lawn, etc.) Secondly, displaying on your dining room table is also distracting, unless you're selling that as well!( that's a solid oak table, nicer than mine!) An inexpensive Hi-Intensity Work Lamp on a Tripod will illuminate quite nicely, as even the best digital cameras have Flash Issues.
I also recommend placing an item atop of a Priority Mail Box, the one you'd use to ship the item in. (Providing you Use Priority Mail, of course) Adds Color, also indicates to the Buyer that the Item is Ready to Ship! Simple Advice, but it works. Take some time and practice your digital Photography, it will indeed pay-off in the Long Run. Best Of Luck on ebay!
