Abraham Lincoln Assassination Newspaper Authenticity
The April 15, 1865, issue of the New York Herald (Abraham Lincoln Assassination headline) was a newspaper saved by many people. It was widely distributed and carried sensational news. Not only was the president assassinated, but it was the first time an American President had been assassinated.
I just discovered this blurb in Lincoln Lore (Sep 1964 issue) and thought it worth passing on. I'm paraphrasing here:
- If the newspaper has yellow pages and is quite fragile, it is a wood-pulp product and is very likely a reprint.
- If the newspaper is soft and is an off-white rag type of paper, it is likely a genuine collectible.
