I wanted to pass along this information about a couple of scam emails that I've recieved in the last few months. Everyone should have the chance to protect themselves against these.
The first happened after I bought a high priced action figure (which was a charity auction). I was the winner. A few hours later I got an email, supposedly from the seller, saying that the original winner of the auction couldn't pay so they wanted to give me a second chance offer. Well big giveaway was that I WON the item, hello? How dumb is that to begin with? And also another giveaway that it was not from the seller is that it was sent to my non-eBay email address. Plus I had already sent payment for the item. I contacted the seller to let them know about that (so they would have a head's up if other bidders had started sending them emails about the item).
The second time was very similiar. But it was on an expensive auction that I did not win.
Ways to know that the emails are fake:
If the email is sent to your non-eBay email address. And if they are asking you to complete the auction outside of eBay without sending you an authentic second chance offer from their eBay account. And if you're still suspicious just send the seller an email to their eBay account and ask them if it's true or not.
If the emails are found to be fake please forward them to eBay's spoof department.
I hope this was helpful.
