This should be a product review but Ebay only supports a few categories for reviews so I am writing it as a buyers guide.
I assume that most of you can easily tell the difference an authentic neon clock sign and a cheap Chinese repro so this guide is not intended as "How to Spot a Fake buyers guide" rather a Buyer Beware Guide.
Unbeknownst to me my wife recently purchased a Reddy Kilowatt Neon Clock Sign from a seller known as "jackninatreasures". The product arrived in a timely manner however I noted that it arrived in no retail packaging, no instructions and no 12 VAC adapter. I reviewed the listing and it stated "This item for sale is a neon wall clock that measures 12" in diameter. It is in great shape and works perfectly. The clock part works via a AA battery and the neon part via 2 pronged plug that can be plugged into any household electrical socket." I noted that this seller has 100+ of these neon signs with various logos.
The item description is clearly misleading in that it states that the neon part operates "via 2 pronged plug" when in fact it requires a 12 VAC adapter. Now MOST of us assume when we purchase an electrical product that it will come with the neccessary cord or adapter to operate the device unless the item description states otherwise. Considering that my wife paid $48 for this item plus $17 shipping I think that it darn well should come with an adapter.
I've been wheeling and dealing myself on Ebay long enough to state with confidence that these neon signs are either factory seconds or retail returns. So your're odds are 50/50 as to whether you will recieve a working unit. And you will still need to buy a 12 VAC adapter to find out! So let the buyer beware.
