Bath salt is quick and easy to make. All you need are a few ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen.
What do you need? Salt.
What kind of salt? Any kind of salt.
Table salt
Ice Cream Salt
Rock Salt
Pickling Salt
Kosher Salt
Sea Salt
Epsom Salts
Now you have the prefect formula for a wonderful bath salt. Pour one cup of your favorite salt under running water in your tub. Dissolve completely before entering the tub. This is very important if your choice was rock salt. Fine salts won’t need this warning. After mixing the salt in the water, soak for as long as you like. Your skin will be soft and smooth and you will feel refreshed.
Want to make a nice gift? You will need 4 cups of your favorite salt, and 4 cotton muslin drawstring bags. Put 1 cup of salt into each bag and tie up the top. Add a nice label with easy directions and place in a small basket with a loofah sponge. Add a bow and you have a beautiful gift for anyone. Instructions for use are very simple: Simply say to drop your Salt Bag Sachet into a tub of warm water. Swish it around in the water until all the salt is dissolved away, and enjoy the ahhhhs. Are you a soap maker? Make up a special bath gift basket with melt and pour soaps and your favorite bath salt mixture in decorated drawstring bags. Plain or fancy, it is sure to be a hit.
How about a fancy version of the basic bath salt formula? Mix equal parts of your favorite salt with baking soda. Use as above.
Want to create a scented bath salt? Place 4 cups of salt in a gallon Ziploc bag. Add ¼ teaspoon of essential oil. And 1 tablespoon of liquid glycerin to the 4 cups of salt. Press out most of the air and zip tightly. Mix fully in the bag for several minutes. Use as above.
Take care what essential oils you use. Some make wonderful bath scents. While others can even be harmful to your health. So fully research any essential oil you plan to use before including it in your mixture.
Some essential oils that are excellent choices are: Grapefruit; Sweet Orange; Lavender; Tea Tree; Peppermint; and Eucalyptus. Lemon Grass Essential Oil is also delightful but being very strong, only use about half the amount. There are many other oils that will do a equally good job. But be sure to research each one carefully before adding them. A note of caution. In my research, I found many so called experts who recommended that far too concentrated amounts of essential oils be added to bath salts and other products that are to be used directly on the skin. First be aware that these products are to be used externally and are not to be eaten. And the general rule about any topical use of products which include essentials should have a ratio of 1/2 of 1% or less of essential oil in the mixture.
So you have the very most basic bath salt mixture. And you have taken a step or 2 beyond the basic mixture for a good start on creating designer bath salt formulas. Look for other guides for other bath salts plus salt scrubs; sugar scrubs; and body polishes. See you next time.
Enjoy!
