Skt. Nadaprada (1016-1100)
Naropa was an Indian Buddhist mystic and a monk. He was a disciple of Tilopa and brother, also some sources say partner and pupil. He is the main teacher of Marpa. Naropa is a part of "Golden Garland" meaning a lineage holder of Tibetan Buddhism Kagyu lineage and was considered an accomplished scholar. He was a great meditator and is best known for haveing enumerated and developed Six Yogas of Naropa.He is considered to be one opf the 84 Maha-siddhas, the 'saints' of Tantric Buddhism. Naropa University is named in his honour.
Generally, Naropa is seen dressed in the white lower garments of a yogini. His body is ash color as that of a wandering mendicant. His left hand hold a skull cup filled with nectar and his right hand shows varada mudra. He sits in Lalitasana posture under an antilope mat and wears a meditation band on his waist. Naropa is the founder of Vajra Yogini practice.
