Edward Stratemeyer (Stratemeyer Syndicate) originally created Nancy Drew mystery books. Generations of families read them, first print published in the early 1930's, and continue to be re-printed 'til the present day, Nancy drew has been the most read and influential series of children books for close to 70 years, not to mention the value of first print mint condition with original dust jacket, they are very hard to find in mint condition and sought after by collectors worldwide.
Carolyn Keene or Mildred Augustine Wirt, also known as Mildred A. Wirt Benson. She wrote 22 of the first 25 volumes of Nancy Drew books, she was hired by Edward Stratemeyer to bring to life his idea of Nancy Drew and her work was good enough to win the hearts of the publishers, if not Stratemeyer himself. Mildred Wirt once wrote that she enjoyed writing Nancy Drew books because the plots were “ready made.”
Well, Edward Stratemeyer’s daughter Harriet Stratemeyer Adams was thought to be Carolyn M. Keene, in reality she provided outlines and edited numerous Nancy Drew volumes she also wrote many of them. Harriet authored 24 volumes. On April 30, 1969, East Grange, New Jersey, Mrs. Harriet S. Adams writes "Indeed I am still writing NANCY DREW and BOBBSEY TWINS books." She also wrote "early books are being rewritten or revised to conform with today's customs. Cars have changed, laws concerning adoption have come into vogue, and also using Negro dialect is taboo. So you see I keep very busy."
Laura Lee Hope, author of the Bobbsey Twins, or Carolyn M. Keene, writer of Nancy Drew and the Dana Girls they are all pen names created by Stratemeyer Syndicate, other writers of Nancy Drew volumes where males as well as females the list include Walter Karig who wrote three novels during the Great Depression, also did Nancy Axelrod, James Duncan Lawrence, Priscilla Doll, Leslie McFarlane, Wilhelmina Rankin, Alma Sasse, Margaret Scherf, Charles Strong, and George Waller Jr.
