    *  File in one direction only; filing back and forth causes splitting and cracking.

    * File your nails in a shape that mirrors the shape of the nail bed.

    * Do not file into the corners of your nails; it weakens them and can make them break more easily.

    * Two coats of polish will deepen the color and won't chip as fast as one coat, especially if you put a dab over the tip of the nail on to underside.

    * After nail polish dries, soak your nails in ice water to speed up the hardening process.

    * Always wipe nails with a cloth before painting. Any oils left on the nail will prevent polish from sticking and increase the risk of chipping.

    * Even if the top layer appears dry, the lower layers may not be, and any kind of pressure to the nail can cause creases.

    * Artificial nails like acrylics and silks take 3 to 5 minutes to dry; natural nails take 5 to 10 minutes to dry.
