A few years after the U.S. stopped minting the long running half cent, ( 1857 was the final year ) two of Canada's provinces were on a limited basis striking the half cent coin. Bewtween 1861-1864, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick minted some of the most beautiful coins ever, the Victoria half cent. Using the same classic portrait seen on several other copper coins, ( British and Canadian), limited production begain in 1861 in both provinces. The Nova Scotia coin was struck both in 1861 amd again in 1864 each with a mintage of 400,000, many which survive today. I've owned and sold many of these beauties and they are wonderful to own!! The trend on both Nova Scotia's is $10.00-$25.00 in F-12 to EF-40. The 1861 New Brunswick is another story... almost all of the mintage were never released. It was thought at the time to be an error, most were returned and melted. 222,800 were originally produced and less than 5,000 are believed to still exist. The trend ( if you can find one) is between $150.00-$400.00 in grades between VG-8 to EF-40. I did sell one about a year ago, it was in Fine-12 and sold very fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These coins are very very desirable in any grade. Both of these coins are beautiful to own from a very brief, but highly sought after series (The Provincial Half Cent Coins). ........
