I've used Nikon for DECADES -- don't want to say how may decades, but I have NEVER Ever had a problem -- until this lens arrived.  I sold my 24-120 non VR AFS D to get this mostly plastic lens.  Very highly respected in the various journals out there and a great value.

In the OLD days a lens was purely mechanical.  Not any longer.  This one arrived dead.  Would NOT work with my (perfectly functioning) D70. 

 Dead, dead, dead.  No autofocus.  Made in China.

I'll check back with you when it's replacement arrives.
