Plenty of pitfalls surround the purchase of a guitar online. From internet only stores, online want-ads, or even here on eBay. For that matter, you can find the same pitfalls even in a brick and mortar music store.
This particular pitfall is the "USED" or "2nd" stamp on so many guitars you can find here on eBay. What does it mean? Basically it means the guitar manufacturer desires to distance themselves from this particular instrument, and not offer any warranty on it. That sums it up, if it breaks, you have no warranty recourse from the manufacturer.
Is a "USED" or "2nd" stamp a bad deal? Absolutely not! It means a couple of things extra to you, the buyer, however.
1) No warranty
2) Reduced resale value
If you don't care about the warranty, and are not interested in getting your money back if you ever sell it, then jump right in! I have owned, and sold, numerous guitars stamped USED on the headstock, even had one I bought from a pawn shop back in the 80's. This is NOT a new thing, regardless of what many may think from viewing the enormous number of these guitars for sale here.
These guitars do require some homework, however, so pay close attention to the listing. An honest seller will disclose any faults with the guitar. Finish damage, electronic problems, neck warped, fretboard lift, neck break, or could just be a manufacturerer's overstock. PAY ATTENTION, and decide what you can live with, and how much you trust the seller.
If you want a NEW guitar, with a warranty, and company support, you need to BUY A NEW GUITAR.
If you want a good guitar, but don't care about a flaw, or want a project of some sort, these guitars can offer an incredible value.
